Vinyl floor coverings

At the factory they put the vinyl on the floor first and then set the walls on it!  It takes about 10 minutes to sand the floor material and they just cut the vinyl and staple it around the edges.  They don't bother with glue.   The guy who installs the floor registers is supposed to seal it down around the register(s), but this may or may not happen.  If it is not done the vinyl is going to get bubbles under it whenever the furnace runs.  This should be a warranty repair, but it is probably easier to get some adhesive and fix it yourself.

Self stick tiles must work for someone because they keep selling them but I have never had any luck with them.  They come unglued within months.  I did one job using commercial grade vinyl squares with vinyl adhesive over new plywood put down as I described for bathroom floors and it came out very well.

If you are thinking of replacing keep in mind that the cheaper the vinyl the faster it moulds itself around every dent, lump, crack or groove in the surface under it.  But good vinyl will show the marks before long too.  Therefore, if you are going to go to all the work of replacing the vinyl, make certain that the surface you will be putting it down on is as clean and flat as you can possibly make it.
