Tear-down & Transport

When preparing to move a home just remember it is not a moving van.  It was never designed to support extra weight while moving so it should be emptied completely.  That means the water heater and toilets should be drained too.  It will be a rough  ride so take off the toilet tank lids, strap the  refrigerator and range in place. tape doors closed, tape drawers closed etc.

The price you pay for transport will be determined by how much work the company has to do to get the home ready to move.  Does it have a hitch, is there a hitch under the house, is it a bolt on or will it have to be welded.   Are there tires and axles or will these have to be rented.  Are there decks, awnings, trees or  shrubs that will have to be moved.  The more of this work you do yourself the cheaper the move will be.

The Marshal Company rents tires, axles, hitches to customers in their service area.  They also have a nifty form for determining what size axles you will need.
