Putty tape is a roll of putty about an inch wide and 1/8 inch thick. It is sold in 25' rolls at mobile home supply stores. I have not seen it in the home improvement stores. To use it you stick it again the flange on new exterior windows or doors and then peel the backing paper off. That done you are ready to put the window or door in place and tighten the screws. It just makes a really convenient way to caulk and seal the new door or window.
