Projects & Parts
In these economic times lots of people without much repair experience are attempting to do their own repairs. Even simple jobs require a few tools and a trip(s) to the home improvement store for parts. That’s when the fun starts. Finding the part(s) you need and getting the right sizes is HARD. Over the years I think I have spent as much time chasing parts as I have doing the actual repairs.
That said, if you are a novice, the repairs may still be very hard. Books & websites show these simple diagrams which make it look like the repair should be quick and easy. It never is. Your setup doesn’t look exactly like the picture in the book and you aren’t sure how to adjust. Your place may have been attacked by a previous amateur who did really dumb things, but how are you supposed to know that?
This is especially painful if you haven’t done repair work before and don’t know the language of repair and the names of the parts you need. At Plumbing Fittings I have started writing stories about simple repair projects that assume no knowledge on your part. No one is born knowing which way to turn a pipe to unscrew it. My goal is to educate and explain in a humorous way.
The first story I wrote is about replacing a shower head. Take a look and let me know what you think.
I am working on a story about replacing a toilet.
