If you haven’t been there, it may seem strange to have an entire page to talk about knee pads. However, especially if you are getting older and fatter like me, good knee pads are a wonderful thing. So, what to they do for you anyhow?
- Let you kneel on nail heads and glass without pain or blood.
- Let you kneel on hot roofs without blistering your skin.
- Spread your weight thus reducing the chance you knee will punch a
hole through the roof or floor. - Save your spouse from having to patch your pants and get blood out
of the fabric. - Reduce your expenses for new pants.
- Cut off the return blood flow from your lower legs; potentially risking
blood clots and pain. (Don’t pull the straps so tight).
Every home improvement store will stock a couple of different kinds. The very cheapest will be a pad that cushions your knee but offers no protection from a nail or glass.More expensive ones, designed for carpet installers, will have a hard shell so you can kneel on the wrong side of a carpet tack strip without pain and which make it easy to slide around. They are also very slippery so I don’t think that style is the best for roof work. It doesn’t really matter which ones you pick, you will find yourself using them more often than you would think.
